Meet Lucas Crane, the man from the DIY collective Silent Barn, New York, who's here together with Angela Moore, doing a month long recidency at WORM. One of the projects he likes to present here is called the non amoral surveillance, wich is a set up of microphones thru the building, with wich one can mix his own soundpiece, and put that on cassette.
In the studio he's collecting sounds, to later incorporate in his vivid live shows, mixing with cassette decks.
The past 3 months we have been dismanteling en rebuilding the studio. The new studio is nearly finished, and already operational. We're back in business! An update with guests and picts will follow soon. This weeks guest is G Lucas Crane, Artist in residence with WORM's Moddrlab. The End of this month's studioguest will be Italian soundartist Ricardo Senni.
We have a new website also: worm.org
till the very end we keep our studio operational. this week sonology student marinus is investigating some of the possibilties of the serge, and he's orientating on working out some of his plans regarding using SuperCollider and AC-Toolbox to trigger some of the synths, and producing an algorithmic composition.
we're in the final stages of moving our venue. worm is to move to the centre of town, and the analogue studio is going to go there too of course. we think to be operational there in the beginning of september....
The past week the studio was packed with people and gear: Dutch group Distant Drummers rehearsed and recorded a whole week long. Some tracks will be on display here soon. Have a look at the preview movie.
'if you don't have a good idea, you will never create a good composition', 'do more with less' and 'economy rules
Frans de Waard en Wouter Jaspers gave a workshop with these thoughts in mind. Do less with more was a conceptual workshop and covered important issues such as do you work with a score, or improvise, wich choises do you make and why.
Coming weeks, HKU student Tjeerd, will be working on a soundpiece, using the midi to cv kenton setup, and the arp 2500, designed by his collegues from the HKU, Robin&Nick. A good testcase for the manual they made, and the Ableton Live Presets.
The very interesting and well received PD introduction workshop ended. With plans for a follow up next season, and maybe sooner, a PD meeting every month, to zoom in on the specific needs of the users, working with various hardware and pd. You can let us know if you are interested in any way in learning PD. Do see Katja's website for info too! (http://www.katjaas.nl)

De workshop bestaat uit 4 delen van ieder ongeveer 2 uur op 9, 16, 23 en 30 maart;
The PD Workshop by Katja Vetter is well under way, and attrackted some 15 people, and rightly so, not only is pure date fascinating stuff, katja is very much specialised in this field, so the workshop knows a thorough theoretical and a very hands on approach.
The Benjolin is a ‘noise box’ that is ‘bent by design’, meaning that it always has a definite amount of unpredictability, while it is still intuitive to play.
In a one-day workshop, conducted by the buddies in electronic madness, Rob Hordijk and Joker Nies, participants will build a analogue sound-device, that is very different from what you usually will find with other DIY-kits.
The kit will ONLY be available through attending the workshop, it is not sold separately. The Benjolin DIY-kit will be easy enough to build even for a beginner in electronics. After successfully building the instrument, which is guaranteed with the help of Rob and Joker, the workshop participants will take home a versatile and very unique analogue synthesizer that can can influence the behaviour of other voltage-controlled modules through seven different control-voltages. It is also able to receive control-voltages for filter-frequency and both of it‘s oscillators.
HERE ARE SOME PICTURES OFF THIS VERY NICE WORKSHOP, HELD AT WORM VOC BUILDING. PICTURES BY JOKER NIES!
The awesome KKNULL was on tour with DAVE BROWN AND SHAUN BAXTER- aka TERMINAL HZ , in the neighbourhood, and with a few days to spare, to record some material in our studio.
Here's some picts, audiomaterial will follow soon.
WORM Presents, yet another workshop, this one held a few months ago, and was very well received by the participants. It was called the Home Swinger D>I>Y workshop, done by Yuri Landman. The movie was done by Maria Botella.
since our venue is in a state of in between new building and old being stripped, i moved the livecast camera installation to the studio for a temporary setup, allowing us to keep developing and testing some features related to camera control and remote control - using PD for control over ip we can practically stay at home livecasting our shows.
here you see the temporal set up and 2 very bright people in the field of code and useful applications development. (marko and dennis are for hire!)
